“All Human Beings are made of one frame
Since all, at first, the same essence came
When by hard fortune, one limb is oppressed
Others lose their wonted rest
If thou cannot feel for another’s misery,
A son of Adam ( a Human Being) is no name for thee.”
-Saadi (13th century Persian poet)
One of my favorite books that was introduced to me back in college by one of my best friends is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coehlo. Those who have read it can recall and relate to the on-going themes of Personal Legend, the Soul of the World, and the Universal language. There is a particular part in the book where one character is speaking Spanish and the other Arabic, and yet they understand each other. There is a message deeper than the words spoken that is speaking in their dialogue. I have experienced this as well when I have visited Iran, my dad’s native country. People will speak in Farsi and although my Farsi vocabulary and knowledge is quite limited, when I am with them, I understand just about everything they say. If you asked me a particular word, I cannot answer but when they tell a story or speak of the most random things, I can pick up the story or things that they speak of. Why is this one may wonder? I believe it is because the Universal Language. It is a language that is not based on words but in the exchange of the Love, Energy, and a different Knowing and Understanding within us. It is a similar energy as to when you walk into a room full of people, perhaps at a social gathering or at work, you immediately feel comfortable and at ease or your guard goes up. This is energy. This is connectedness. This is oneness. We are all inextricably linked in ways in which we may not know or understand. We give out energy and we receive energy everywhere we go and with each interaction that we make. The connection is rooted within us to one another, to other humans, to nature, to the universe. Have you ever heard, what you put out to the universe comes back to you? People may hear this and think, “well, I’ve been asking for x,y,z – it hasn’t shown up yet” or they brush it off as an ideal thinking, a lofty notion. There is a quote I love and it says “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right” (Henry Ford). The truth is it is not enough to say the words, that is surface level transaction, if you will. Each molecule and level of our being starts with our thoughts, our thoughts permeate within our energy and perceptions, our perceptions control our actions and reactions, our actions and the energy projected with them are what speak to the universe, which in turn relay back to us. An excellent documentary that I watched some time ago, “What the Bleep!? Down the Rabbithole” presented a demonstration relating to this. They had highly spiritual people and leaders of different faiths step into rooms and channeling various thoughts – ranging from Happiness, Love, Abundance, Gratitude to thoughts of Hate, Anger, Resentment, and others of the negative spectrum. All of the water molecules in the presence of positivity formed beautiful and symmetric formations, whereas all of the ones in the presence of negativity had a quite chaotic resemblance. When more than 50% of the human body is also comprised of water, what do you think our thoughts create for us starting within?
Last night, I was quite honored to be invited by Dr. Hank Rubicek to speak with my sister Sara Alavi and my dad, Dr. Mehdi Alavi on 90.1 FM KPFT “What’s your story?”. We had an hour long segment, discussing peace, our organization Peace Worldwide, and the arts. It was my first time being interviewed on radio and I have to applaud Hank for being such a gracious and wonderful host, making the process seamless. I also would love to applaud a couple of the ladies behind the scenes, Miss Tatyana Gago and Miss Nicole Rhocherlyn, who ran the tech and transitions so fluidly and beautifully. Although our segment was an hour, it felt as if it flew by. Much as I have discussed above, we touched on the importance of peace starting within. Our thoughts permeate into greater frequencies. Our dad discussed his background in Iran and his journey to the United States, the Good Samaritan who would become his best friend, but who helped him enroll into university and guide him in his Personal Journey. One man, one individual, how the power of one person can help shape and form another’s life for the better through simple gestures of positive and kind actions, one individual who created a ripple effect leading to a better life for another. My sister Sara discussed her music, beautiful and heartfelt. From a young age, I’ve always loved my sister’s voice. Her voice is like an angel. I especially love her song, “Dream of Peace” that she shared, not only because her voice but the voice that song speaks on behalf of others. Aside these two incredible individuals that I have the honor to call family, I spoke some on art as well. Art to me is a universal language. Art is not just in the canvas but in all aspects of what we do and how we see things. It is Life in Motion. The Creation is the art. It is a connection to something greater, a feeling, a color, an energy, a oneness. It can be a beautiful skyline, an architecture you walk into when travelling, a new dance form you experience, a music you feel, a photograph, a fashion design. The beautiful thing about art is one person can look at the same object or color as another and perceive it completely different, the same person can also look at the same color or object at different times or at different moods and feel it different. Everyone has a unique way in which they feel and interpret the art around them but ultimately art is universal – no race, color, religion – that we may understand it just the same. An on-going theme within my personal canvas and online forms of art is always an undertone of oneness, coexistence, duality of human and nature, the Spirit of an individual, and currently working on some universe within type themes in personal projects. And to end on this note, there is a universe untapped within each of us, waiting to be explored. As Rumi, another Persian poet I love put it, “You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the ocean in a drop.” You have all the potential and possibility within you – in creation, in peace, in love, in all you desire. You are limitless if you believe. Together, each drop has the power to create waves of change in the universe for the better.
